pragmatic response (sort of) to this
article :
i think it's materialistic but also reasonable for women with high achievements to expect a certain qualities/ qualification on par with themselves in their partner. if local men can't live up to it then too bad. why should women lower their standard or even marry to suffer when they can support themselves comfortably? i think people need to shed the traditional / old fashioned ideas that men must be the head of the family and expect women to stay home and look after the babies. isn't it more practical for the more abled and higher-paid one to go out and work whilst the other stay at home if really the family is unable to cope with both working spouses? if it came down to that, it shouldn't matter whether it's the husband or wife who's supporting the family.
but the husband will feel inferior if his wife is the one supporting the family, you say. oh yes, the poor dented male ego, fostered by the patriarchal system that dominated the world for better part of man's history on earth, can't take it. the world is changing, and women are catching up or even excelling in fields previously dominated by men, especially in sg. you can't expect women to still be subserviant, meek and compliant when there is every reason for them to be assertive, confident and independent.
people are becoming realistic. love is rarely, if still any is, blind. i'd say don't hold your breath for the statistic for single women to go down if the attitudes don't change on both sides.
sidenote: or maybe it's a process of natural selection to choose the best mate, in which case, the statistic may only go down if the 'pickings' improve. =p lol.
